Lopez Island Hospice and Home Support

Services

Why is this program useful on Lopez Island?

In response to the above needs, our LIHHS Volunteers provide the following general categories of service. More information about each can be found about each service in the detailed section below:

Case Manager:

Our Case Manager is a certified professional who provides skilled assessment of clients' physical condition and ability to manage medications and activities of daily living. We are then able to offer volunteer assistance in coordination with health care professionals to help the client better manage at home. The case manager may also offer suggestions for lifestyle improvements or even referral to the Medicare Home Health program.

Direct Care Volunteers:

Trained Direct Care volunteers provide respite care for people who are ill, dying, or have dementia by offering light personal care, transportation, and companionship. All volunteers have received 30 hours of training. Associate volunteers also provide simple errands, transportation to appointments, and chore assistance.

Bereavement and Spiritual Care:

Our committee's primary mission is support for both our clients and the volunteers who serve them. We maintain a lending library and grief related tapes, videos, books and periodicals. We provide contacts with Island faith groups, a scheduled monthly Grief Support Group, periodic mailings of support to the bereaved, and we facilitate an Annual Community Remembrance Celebration. As in all matters of the organization, client confidentiality is maintained.

The committee also arranges or supports opportunities for the continuing education of our volunteers in areas of spirituality and grief support. We invite your suggestions and inquiries for service and can be reached through our office number or any volunteer.

Equipment Loans:

Medical equipment is available for loan at no cost from our loan closet. It includes walkers, commodes, wheelchairs, crutches, and other useful items.

There is no charge for any of our services. We are supported entirely by donations from within our community and by grants we are qualified to receive. Our strong commitment to confidentiality assures your privacy will be maintained at all times. Please read our Privacy Statement for details.

If you are interested in joining our volunteer group or in supporting our efforts in any way, we welcome you sincerely and thank you for sharing your skills with your community.
